system idea
I have been having a look through all the notes for Metem we created and i found a cool idea that you came up with, you said "stats as health aswell" this is a awesome idea.
Say you have 3 in constitution this would equal 30 hit point but you then take 10 damage leaving 20 hp this would then translate into a -1 to constitution effecting your play more than just lower hit points, this is only example but i think it can make the game more complex but still very streamline in game play.

Re: system idea
Hmm that is cool, lol. So each level of an attribute has 10 HP attached and when you lose it you can no longer use that level of the attribute, it is smooth.
Btw check out my Clarity mechanic for Oneiros.

Re: system idea
It is a trait where multiple functions are tied into the same trait seamlessly -
Clarity measures the character's state of awareness.
At low levels the character is oblivious to his surroundings, memories intrude causing him to interact with things that arent there and he finds it hard to awaken.
Within Oneiros, damage is taken off Clarity, if it drops to zero he becomes another Phantasm caught in its own passion play, viewing everyone else through a filter of madness.
While dreaming, one point of Clarity can be spent to automatically succeed at a task or perform a superhuman feat.
To awaken the dreamer must roll under his Clarity on 2d6, if he fails he has a false awakening, believing he has woken up, while he is actually in a dream imitating reality.
- even Endurance (the normal type health meter) is rolled as to resist disease and fatigue.

Re: system idea
yeah i like that idea make the character compact and smooth less stats to worry about more openness and creativity.
i like the idea that stats can take damage and i like the idea of less stats that cover more.
what about
mind
body
soul
as the main stats

The unholy trinity is always a good idea.

Re: system idea
I have been using a trinity based on Mental, Social and Physical core traits.
I feel Social is going to come up a lot in a less crunchy/hack slash game (interrogations, cons, persuasions etc)
Soul would make a really good kind of power stat/fuel for psionics/psychic health type thing.
Damage to the physical trait is a result of your standard RPG situations, the other traits would be less likely to be harmed social ability could be harmed by another's social ability, ie losing influence from failed debates, lost confidence after being intimidated or interrogated.
The only way I can see someone losing mind/intelligence is from psi or brain damage.

Re: system idea
yeah i see what you mean but what about horror.
Seeing aberrations and ghosts and demons would fuck with some ones mind to, thats the nastiest part to some of these creatures the fear they create.

Re: system idea
Good point, that could be the main loss of Mind.
Sanity shaking encounters that reduce people to gibbering wrecks.
Mind would be the perfect sanity meter for a low crunch game.

I really like D6s because everyone has a board game or two lying around, so you automatically increase the amount of people who say,
"fuck it, lets have a go."
"fuck it, lets have a go."

Re: system idea
These slim digest sized indie games are what made me think, "shit we could make a game and not worry about having to make a detailed over complicated system and elaborate enough setting to fill a 300 - 400 page expensive hard cover tome."
Fuck, other people are doing it, we just arent likely to make a big profit.

Re: system idea
i thinking i may only need the 3 stats but i might use them to derive other stats from them or just use them for skills
Re: system idea
Take a look at Cold City's system, that is a 3 attribute system that uses player made "Traits" to personalize the character.
The 3 Attributes were -
Action
Reason
Influence
